School Partners Program
"My students really responded to professional musicians who had great ideas about how to improve our playing. We sound much more like a college level group since they have been working with us." — Vance Miller, Hamilton High School Academy of Music
The School Partners Program for secondary schools is a two-year partnership in which the L.A. Philharmonic works closely with selected schools to provide supplemental music instruction. The goal of this program is to create effective relationships with schools in order to help raise the level of well-rounded musicianship skills in students. LA Phil musicians and teaching artists partner with school orchestra teachers to enhance music programs through individual and group instrumental coaching, in addition to sharing professional experiences from the music field. Students attend LA Phil concerts and open rehearsals at Walt Disney Concert Hall, and music teachers participate in year-long professional development.
Current school partners include:
- Bancroft Middle School
- Belmont High School
- Berendo Middle School
- Hamilton High School
- Los Angeles Center for Enriched Studies
- Los Angeles County High School for the Arts
- Santa Monica High School
- Virgil Middle School
