Composer Fellowship Program

Bridging the gap between aspiring young composers and the greatest living composers of today
"I'm delighted for the chance to work with L.A.ís next generation of composers. This is an example of a large institution getting right down to the personal level and making a lasting difference in young people's lives. Probably in my life, too!" — Steven Stucky, Composer
"For me, the Fellowship is a dream come true ó a chance to learn and create with some of the best composers and musicians alive today. After the first class I felt inspired and liberated." — Andy Alden, Composer Fellow

This multi-year program provides young composers of high school age with the necessary skills to achieve excellence in music composition. The LA Phil with Pulitzer Prize-winning composer Steven Stucky, its Consulting Composer for New Music, launched this program in September 2007.

Select fellows in this mentorship program receive private and group composition lessons with LA Phil guest composers; attend seminars presented by LA Phil musicians; learn from film composers, music arrangers, and publishers; hear their music performed in class sessions by LA Phil musicians or teaching faculty; and attend concerts and rehearsals at Walt Disney Concert Hall.
